Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF)is proud to partner with Wai Kai to present two screenings at the new lifestyle event lawn on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26.

These films are complementary and open to the public, as part of the annual I Heart HIFF month. 

On Friday, August 25 HIFF screens WATERMAN preceded by local short documentary NA KAMA KAI: CHILDREN OF THE OCEAN, a perfect date night event for ocean lovers of all ages.

On Saturday, August 26, bring the whole ‘ohana for family friendly animated favorites LUCA preceded by local short film MANŌ.

Both screenings will feature pre-show entertainment from 6-7 p.m.: Friday night – KC Mckeague-Salgado; Saturday night – Annette Oasay. Food and beverage is available at the on-site restaurants Kitchen Door the The LookOut, come early for Pau Hana specials from 4-7 p.m.  Dine-in or order takeout to bring out the lawn. Adult Beverages will be available for purchase from Kitchen Door, and allowed to enjoyed on the lawn for guests 21+

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy these films on the lawn in this new, in-demand venue in Ewa Beach.

 

PROGRAM:
4 p.m: Pau Hana Specials at on-site restaurants (ends at 7 p.m.)
5 p.m.: Lawn Seating Opens
6 p.m.: Pre-show Entertainment: KC Mckeague-Salgado (Friday); Annette Oasay (Saturday)
7 p.m.: Screening begins

NA KAMA KAI: CHILDREN OF THE OCEAN

Nā Kama Kai (Children of the Ocean) is a short documentary about a non-profit’s mission to empower youth through ocean-based education, with the goal of cultivating environmental stewardship and building future community leaders. While traveling to Brazil for their first international clinic, participants quickly realize the many ways the ocean connects us rather than divides us.

WATERMAN

Five-time Olympic medalist and Native Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku shattered records and brought surfing to the world while overcoming a lifetime of personal challenges. Waterman explores his journey and legacy as a legendary swimmer, trailblazer, and the undisputed father of modern-day surfing, following the sport’s first-time inclusion in the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Games – a fitting tribute to his work promoting the sport around the globe.

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides.
